Who’s running the show – you or your clock ?

time manage

Freedom of working from home drew many of us to the Freelancing world. Flexibility of taking up passion, getting to be our own boss, working our own hours, undoubtedly offers attractive options to pursue. But once plunged into, it is needless to say, all boils down to survival. And quality is the imperative demand.

Quite obviously, quality output demands investment of quality time. But time is what will never be on our side. How often we see ourselves constantly up against the clock, rushing from task to task? We always end up wanting just a little more time to research or make sure that the project is in shape. And that little time is always impossible to find. The ongoing battle of managing work/life balance, never end unless we learn to be self-disciplined. And that self-discipline helps us pull through those juggling games.   To bring out the best result from the available hours of a day we need to redesign and re-structure our working style.

  • Schedule it

Scheduling the three main tasks, thinking, acting and conversing – As humans, we tend to end up trapped in a chain of thoughts but a little of conscious effort to mend our thinking process can help set us up new boundaries. The new perspective can lessen our stress thereby saving our time. Conversations, be it an email or over the telephone or a text message, can be kept crisp and short.

  • Productive hours

Each of us has productive hours of a day in different rhythms. Some find energy picking up once the sun rises, while some in the evening hours. And for some it is in the calm of the night. Follow those rhythms.

  • Work on plans

For freelancers, planning, organizing, persistence, dedication and prioritizing are prerequisites.  Each day starts off with good set of plans. But as the day advances, we see our plans going haywire. We simply fail to realize that we are stuck in the grind of routine. Getting into a consistent work groove sounds cool, but sometimes, the dull mundane can drain off our motivation, thereby leaving us frustrated.   A little tweak and short breaks can help things fall into places.

  • Avoid distractions

A scenario that repeats quite too often is distraction. Being a little proactive can definitely minimize distractions adding on to your hours of quality time

  • Partner up

Teaming up with family members and keeping them in the loop, managing becomes a lot easier and can leave you with enough of time to focus on potential projects.

Well, life has never been easy for someone who care’s to achieve more and live completely. However practicing these simple concepts in our day-to-day routine, we can surely be the master of our time.

Following your PASSION or just doing a Job?

Be the anchor of your dreams 🙂

This is certainly a million dollar question that often rings in the ears and strikes the chords of the heart, isn’t it? This often emerges as a rift between the mind and the heart. While the mind may seek a comfortable job, your heart strings may be coaxing you to follow your passion.

Again, being passionate about something and actually pursuing it with determination & passion these are truly two different things, just the way day dreaming is different from actualizing your dream. Success stories are surely a result of not just being passionate but pursuing it to the fullest of one’s ability or even requires building ones capabilities to achieve your dream. Behind every success story, are a string of rejections, challenges and also the strength and determination to carry on irrespective of everything else.

Sometimes we may arrive at a situation when we are torn between earning a living through a comfortable job (which can also make you complacent) and ditching the safety net of stable income to achieve something bigger, to build something of your own. It takes immense courage to leave the beaten path and create your own way. There may be unforeseen hurdles that you may be faced with but in the process of overcoming them, you learn, not only new skills but also more about yourself, your own strengths and shortcomings.

To be able to work towards achieving one’s dream is also extremely fulfilling. The satisfaction of working on something that you really enjoy is unparalleled. You may complain about the long hours you spend on a job but the hours just slip away when you are busy being your creative best. 40 hours a week doing something you are not passionate about look lengthier than an 80 hour work that you do out of your free will and desire. The rewards may not necessarily be tangible when you begin but this type of success tastes the sweetest and with perseverance the monetary rewards can be substantial too.

So go on, be the best YOU can be!

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” Maya Angelou

Before we call it a year

Well, it’s that time of the year when excitement to get something new fills the air. New hopes, new promises, or simply new resolutions that are future frills to keep us happily engaged.

But then before we put our foot forward to step in 2015, how about taking account of the year spent. Here are some quick ideas of what you may want to check.

I count on you – Take a count on who all affected your life, added value or contributed to you in just anyway. If they touched your life positively or helped you learn something from the experience you shared with them, then its time to have their name in your “thank you list”. Brushing through your social network is certainly a mandate. You may also want to let go the ones who choose to stay away from you all year long for unmentioned reasons…Well just a thought.

Skill-review – Take a dip check on the skill inventory, on the new talents acquired by you or the ones you planned to develop, but gave a miss due to the busy-busy schedule. Would you consider gaining some expertise in the upcoming year?

Fulfillment status – How about a check on what all resolutions were fulfilled and how many were turned down.. Well who doesn’t know that these resolutions are truly notorious to keep? Perhaps some need a revised goal and some are no more important.

Health is wealth – Too many of us end up spending all our health to gain wealth and when we have it all we end up spending more to regain it.. Hence a yearly check on how healthy you are and the pro-active approach to keep yourself fit is a must, what say?

And Wealth is certainly Wealth – For all the spinning around you did throughout the year, were you compensated well or should you find alternate ways to grow some money around?

Don’t just turn the pages

Slow down mummy, there is no need to rush,
slow down mummy, what is all the fuss?
Slow down mummy, make yourself a cup tea.
Slow down mummy, come and spend some time with me.

Slow down mummy, let’s put our boots on and go out for a walk,
let’s kick at piles of leaves, and smile and laugh and talk.
Slow down mummy, you look ever so tired,
come sit and snuggle under the duvet and rest with me a while.

Slow down mummy, those dirty dishes can wait,
slow down mummy, let’s have some fun, let’s bake a cake!
Slow down mummy I know you work a lot,
but sometimes mummy, its nice when you just stop.

Sit with us a minute,
& listen to our day,
spend a cherished moment,
because our childhood is not here to stay!

Poem by Rebekah knight

Live your life, don’t just turn the pages !

This is my all time favorite poem that essays much more than I can personally do. We want it all and hence we sometimes fail on not someone else’s parameters but our own. Those goals which are supernaturally higher and  unrealizable for many. While we know that in the end it doesn’t matter who won the rat race or how many sharks came out alive, all that matters is who lived a life and who just rushed through the chapters in it !! Whether its living for our little ones who will grow in no time or it is being with our elders who will fade away with time, we aren’t doing either of them. Superwoman image within is not letting us do what our heart secretly desires to.

Let me share a story that almost each woman can relate to, a feeling that has been ours sometime or the other. Here I steal this opportunity to introduce you to an exceptional writing which is purely an inspiration from the robotic lives that we end up living. Keep reading it will here any time today J
