This is certainly a million dollar question that often rings in the ears and strikes the chords of the heart, isn’t it? This often emerges as a rift between the mind and the heart. While the mind may seek a comfortable job, your heart strings may be coaxing you to follow your passion.
Again, being passionate about something and actually pursuing it with determination & passion these are truly two different things, just the way day dreaming is different from actualizing your dream. Success stories are surely a result of not just being passionate but pursuing it to the fullest of one’s ability or even requires building ones capabilities to achieve your dream. Behind every success story, are a string of rejections, challenges and also the strength and determination to carry on irrespective of everything else.
Sometimes we may arrive at a situation when we are torn between earning a living through a comfortable job (which can also make you complacent) and ditching the safety net of stable income to achieve something bigger, to build something of your own. It takes immense courage to leave the beaten path and create your own way. There may be unforeseen hurdles that you may be faced with but in the process of overcoming them, you learn, not only new skills but also more about yourself, your own strengths and shortcomings.
To be able to work towards achieving one’s dream is also extremely fulfilling. The satisfaction of working on something that you really enjoy is unparalleled. You may complain about the long hours you spend on a job but the hours just slip away when you are busy being your creative best. 40 hours a week doing something you are not passionate about look lengthier than an 80 hour work that you do out of your free will and desire. The rewards may not necessarily be tangible when you begin but this type of success tastes the sweetest and with perseverance the monetary rewards can be substantial too.
So go on, be the best YOU can be!
“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” Maya Angelou
